    Ends: Aldgate East underground station, Toynbee Hall exit.
    Time: Approx. 1 hour.
    Distance: 1.5 kilometres.
    wheelchair access No major accessibility problems.
    Route: Whitechapel High Street, Toynbee Hall, Brick Lane, Fournier Street, Spitalfields Market, Brune Street, Petticoat Lane, The Women's Library.
    Special notes:
    • The underground exit nearest the Whitechapel Public Library is closed outside normal office hours. The other exit, however, is only 3 minutes' walk away, at the junction of Whitechapel High Street and Commercial Street. Make sure you don't go to Aldgate Station - not the same as Aldgate East.
    • Spitalfields Market is open all day Monday to Friday and the middle of the day on Sunday. Petticoat Lane is open Monday to Friday middle of the day and Sunday mornings. The best time to visit both markets is on Sunday.
    • The Whitechapel Art Gallery is open daily except Monday. Telephone: 020 7522 7878.
    • The Women's Library is closed Monday and Sunday, open other days at different times. Telephone: 020 7320 2222.
